How Should I Prepare My Toddler for Their Dental Visit?

Preparing your toddler for a new experience isn’t always easy. Even when explaining new situations in-depth to your child, they might not grasp it like you had hoped. This is normal, so how do we best prepare them for trips to the dentist?

Be Positive

Treating the whole experience like it’s easy and isn’t a big deal will help your child stay relaxed. If you over explain or a sibling says the dentist is scary, they’re likely to have anxiety. Keep your explanations and introductions to the dentist simple and stay positive throughout the process

Exams for Children Under 3 Years Old

For patients under 3 years of age, we keep the exams short and thorough to keep your little one happy. When we start these short exams, we’ll have your child sit on your lap. Our doctors will look in their mouth, chart a few notes, and then apply a fluoride treatment. Even if your child cries, they’re opening up big for the doctor to see their teeth! Then, we’re done with the exam before they know it.
