What Are the Best Toothpastes for Children?

Since children have many more tastebuds than adults, many of the minty flavors available are too strong for children to brush with enjoyably. With great flavors like bubble gum, strawberry, and more, your child will be excited to brush with a flavor that just tastes great.

Toothpastes

Aquafresh

It’s an absolute classic toothpaste! The multiple colors that glide out across the bristles just screams fun. Plus, the mint flavor is not as strong as other toothpastes on the market, giving your child the fresh breath without the overpowering mint flavor.

Crest Kids Sparklefun

This is the prettiest toothpaste available. It’s perfect for your princess’s or prince’s pearly whites. The fluoride content is great, the flavor is light, yet delicious, and it’s translucent sparkly appearance is so fun to brush with.

Tom’s of Maine Natural Fluoride Toothpaste for Children

This all-natural toothpaste is great for children with sensitivities to chemicals, flavors, or other materials that are in other toothpastes. This toothpaste also comes in some awesome flavors like “Silly Strawberry” and “Outrageous Orange Mango.”

Make Sure It Contains Fluoride

Many parents have the concern that fluoride toothpaste is too strong or is chemically inappropriate for young children. Once baby teeth have erupted into your child’s mouth, they need protection, and fluoride is the absolute best way to protect teeth.

How Much Toothpaste Should You Use?

For infants, it’s obvious that you can’t teach them how much toothpaste to use. Apply a small pea-sized amount of toothpaste to your finger and brush it around their exposed teeth. This amount of toothpaste will not be harmful to your child.

Toddlers will most likely still need help putting toothpaste onto their toothbrush and help with brushing. Toddlers and young children can use a pea-sized amount each morning and night.

Older children can use a slightly larger pea-sized amount on their toothbrushes every morning and night. Older children can usually stand the taste of the stronger tasting toothpastes on the market too, so you may not need to continue purchasing children’s toothpaste as they age.
