What to do if your child cut their lip or cheek

Apply ice to injured areas to help control swelling. If there is bleeding, apply firm but gentle pressure with a gauze or cloth. If bleeding does not stop after 15 minutes or it cannot be controlled with simple pressure, go to the nearest emergency room or urgent care center.

Urgent Care or Emergency Room

If your child is experiencing swelling and severe bleeding from the cut, take them to urgent care or the emergency room. They’ll need to have the wound stitched and properly cleaned. Urgent care or the emergency room will also help identify other wounds and prevent infection.
